VOLUNTEER WITH HVC
We welcome volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, but in the first instance would ask you drop us a brief line about yourself, your hobbies and passions and what you can offer to HVC. We also ask that, as a minimum, you commit to 4 weeks with us. We understand a lot of our volunteers come through Cambodia and have a 30-day visa. We don't expect you to miss the fantastic sights that Siem Reap has to offer, we just ask you to make a commitment to us as we're reluctant to have a continual flurry of changing faces for the kids. Stability is our key. We also welcome longer-term volunteers and are proud to have the Project Trust placements up and running.
Any volunteer working with us will need to undergo a CRB check and provide an employers/academic reference. We will meet or talk to all volunteers in order to discuss the most appropriate role for you in volunteering, and take you through our child protection policy. This is purely to safeguard our children, as we're sure you'll appreciate. We have a strict child protection policy, which we will ask you to review beforehand and sign. We will also ask that you obtain the correct travel insurance before you leave and will ask for a copy. This is to ensure any liability you may be open to is covered by your insurance.
We do not charge for volunteering - we wish to draw on everyone's experience. We simply ask that if you eat lunch with us, you contribute $1 a day towards our costs. We will also ask you to buy 2 t-shirts (or more if you wish!) at $3 each.
Whilst we may have accommodation available on site, it may not be to everyone's tastes - we are in a quiet small village. As a result we have several supporters in the town, who will be happy to accommodate you for a discounted rate. By all means ask us for our contacts or book your own accommodation for the first few days to settle in. We have discounted rates in the city for our volunteers to include bed, breakfast and daily transfers (we are about 15mins outside the town centre).
Finally, this is far from compulsory as we appreciate a lot of you may already be traveling - it would be great if you have a fundraiser before you leave. Anything from $10 upwards is most welcome. As we don't charge, we love our volunteers to get into the swing of things before they come. It helps strengthen the relationship between you and us. Ask us for ideas if you're stuck if you wish to do something. Even a sponsored jog can surprise you! Every penny you raise will be receipted and put through our books, generally in the UK. If you're already moving, then just drop us a line and we'll all welcome you with open arms.
Please note, this is no easy task - It's hot, sticky and dusty but there are so many ways to help, from teaching English, playing lively games, helping with the cleaning, laundry, cooking and gardening, to enjoying a picture book or joining in with a jigsaw puzzle.
